Over half of Indian Airports Now Run on Complete Green Energy

Over 55% of India’s operational airports have transitioned to 100% green energy, as per the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA). 87 out of 159 operational airports (approx. 55%) now rely entirely on solar and wind power. Airports, including those under the Airports Authority of India (AAI), have installed solar power plants for self-consumption. Some airports are also procuring green energy through open access. .

Additional sustainability initiatives includes green building designs, electric vehicle adoption, energy efficient HVAC, lightning, and baggage handling systems. The Civil Aviation Ministry has advised all operational airports and upcoming greenfield airport developers to aim for carbon neutrality and net zero emissions.
